Quo Vadis Europe?

Located in the heart of Europe, Baden-Württemberg is both a part of the European Union and its close partner. Globalisation and digitalisation, the reshaping of migration, internal and external security, the need to tackle climate change, the conservation of biodiversity, the further development of the Economic and Monetary Union – all of these challenges need a strong and effective European Union, as well as strong and effective regions. But the European Union itself has suddenly been called into question. Brexit, a trend towards renationalisation, populism, dwindling social cohesion, and the violation of fundamental principles of the rule of law in some Member States show that the future of Europe is at stake.

Quo vadis, Europe? What is the future of Europe, what should be its guiding vision? How can we reinvent Europe as a convincing foreign policy actor, as a strong and stable economy, and as a role model for environmental and climate protection? And what role should be played by its regions within this process?
