The Trump effect on the European security architecture
Following a turbulent year, relations between the US and its European allies are not as damaged as many commentators had anticipated. To the relief of many policy-makers in Europe, US government officials have sought to reassure their European allies that the US remains fully committed to European security. Nevertheless, there are indications that there might be a lasting “Trump effect” on the European security architecture.
This past December, European leaders launched the Permanent Structured Cooperation, a framework to gradually deepen defense cooperation in the EU. What can be expected of the Permanent Structured Cooperation, what are its implications for NATO-EU cooperation, and how has the US government responded to the EU project?
To discuss these and other questions related to European security right after the Munich Security Conference, please join us for a breakfast discussion on “The Trump effect on the European security architecture”
