Peace and Urban Space

Peace and Urban Space

Berlin in the 20th Century

Cities and towns have been objects of militarisation in manifold ways during the 20th century, as we well know. Yet, at the same time they have also played a major role as places in which activities for peace and disarmament could take place. The evening lecture of Dorothee Brantz aims to explore the dynamic relations between urban space and peace in Berlin after 1945, focussing especially on the nature of peace in urban life.

This public event is the opening lecture of the conference ‘Peace Initiatives and Urban Space in the 20th Century’, held by the Arbeitskreis Historische Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (AKHF) at the Archiv Grünes Gedächtnis from 27th to 29th September 2017.
