Academic Freedom in Belarus: Continuity and Change in a Restrictive Environment
SCIENCE AT RISK-Monitoring-Bericht 2026
Ahead of the Berlin Belarus Future Forum 2026, the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and the SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office invite you to the presentation of the SCIENCE AT RISK Monitoring Report 2026, Academic Freedom in Belarus: Continuity and Change in a Restrictive Environment, followed by a panel discussion with experts.
The report looks at the extensive state control of Belarusian education and research, including ideological indoctrination, the militarisation of schools and universities, an ever closer alignment of educational institutions with Russian state ideology, and repression of scholars at home and in exile. The panel will discuss the implications of these developments for the future of Belarusian academic life.
