Book Launch: Kenya's Past as Prologue. Voters, Violence and the 2013 General Elections
June 25, at IFRA 3 pm (by invitation only)
Book Launch:
“Kenya’s Past as Prologue”, a collection of essays on the 2013 elections in Kenya
Over the last fifty years, Kenya has held regular general elections which have at times brought reforms in the economic and social landscape. Often, though, the high expectations placed on elections were not met where some have led to violence while others have been relatively peaceful.
The study of electoral politics in Africa is important for consolidation of inclusive governance and democracy. It is for this reason that Heinrich Böll Stiftung, IFRA and Twaweza Communications have released Kenya’s Past as Prologue, a collection of essays on the 2013 elections in Kenya.

Kenya's Past as Prologue interrogates the historical and structural constraints to voting but also explores what the elections campaign and short term events produce by themselves.
This is the first of two Volumes on the topic. A multi-disciplinary reflection by scholars based in Kenya is underway and will be released later this year.
