Building Europe’s energy future
The Green Deal Industrial Plan as an accelerator of the European energy transition?
The European Commission’s Green Deal Industrial Plan aims to counter the potential trade and competition distortion of the US’ Inflation Reduction Act. Nevertheless, the Plan can also be seen as an accelerator for Europe’s energy transition, along with the proposed Net-Zero-Industry Act, the reform process of the Electricity Market Design and the geo-economic reorientation away from fossil fuel dependence.
How can Europe seize this momentum to build climate-neutral and resilient energy systems? How can we ensure that Europe achieves its climate targets while developing competitive industries in new energy technologies? How can we trigger technology rollout and innovation? What is the potential of the foreseen European Sovereignty Fund in driving a European energy transition?
