Decolonizing the discourse on Europe’s East

Panel discussion at Café Kyiv 2025

While Global South countries have made strides over recent decades in decolonizing from historical imperialism, the idea of the Russian empire remains widely unchallenged and preserves its influence across the region. The invasion into Ukraine demonstrates that Russia’s imperial ambitions persist, with dire consequences.
This discussion explores why ongoing discourses in Germany and elsewhere in the world too often fail to acknowledge the anti-colonial character of Ukraine’s fight for freedom.
