World Nuclear Industry Status Report to cykliczny, przekrojowy raport o stanie energetyki jądrowej na świecie. Najnowsze wydanie wskazuje na globalny trend odchodzenia od atomu i rekordowy spadek jej udziału w produkcji energii pierwotnej do 4,4%. Budowa 49 z 69 planowanych elektrowni ma wieloletnie opóźnienia, a rosnące koszty operacyjne prowadzą do odłączania kolejnych reaktorów w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Jak pokazują autorzy raportu, energia z atomu może być konkurencyjna cenowo tylko dzięki wysokim dotacjom i pośredniej pomocy ze strony państwa. Potężne światowe gospodarki - Chiny, Niemcy, Japonia, Brazylia - to niektóre z państw, które wyprodukowały więcej energii ze źródeł odnawialnych niż z atomu.

Jakie wnioski płyną z raportu dla polskiej debaty o atomie? Choć utrzymuje się  ogólnoświatowy trend wyjścia z atomu, polski rząd intensywnie pracuje nad planem budowy dwóch elektrowni do 2035 roku. Jak ocenić krajowy program energetyki jądrowej pod względem bezpieczeństwa energetycznego, ekonomiki, oddziaływania na społeczeństwo i środowisko?

Fundacja im. Heinricha Bölla zaprasza na spotkanie z głównym autorem raportu Myclem Schneiderem i dyskusję na temat przyszłości energetyki w Polsce i na świecie.

The nuclear power industry – global challenges and the Polish perspective

The World Nuclear Industry Status Report is an annual comprehensive overview of nuclear power plant data, including information on operation, production and construction. The latest edition confirms a global decline in the share of nuclear power within commercial primary energy production to a record low of 4.4 %.  Out of 69 construction sites, 49 projects have encountered multi-annual delays, and growing operating costs have led to the shutdown of several units in the United States. According to the authors of the report, the price of electricity produced from nuclear plants would not be economically competitive without large subsidies and indirect state support. The great world economies of China, Germany, Japan, and Brazil are only some of the nuclear countries producing more electricity from new renewables than from nuclear power plants.

How are the conclusions of the World Nuclear Industry Status Report relevant for Poland? In spite of the global downward trend in the nuclear power industry, the Polish government has been working intensively on a new project to build two nuclear power stations by 2035. How can we estimate the country’s nuclear power programme in view of such issues as energy security, the economy, and its influence on health, society, and the natural environment?

The Heinrich Böll Foundation in Warsaw is pleased to be hosting a meeting with the main author of the report, Mycle Schneider, as well as a discussion about the future of energy in Poland and the wider world.

The discussion will be with simultaneous translation (Polish-English).
