Energy Transition in India? Exploring the German Energiewende
Friday, March 7, 2014 from 10:00 - 13:00
Venue: Room Casuarina, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi 110003
Energiewende (German for 'energy transition') is currently one of the most ambitious concepts for transforming a country's energy system from a fossil fuel basis towards renewable sources. Germany has over the past years designed policies on the reduction of fossil fuel use, climate protection, a phase-out of nuclear power and the scale-up of renewable energies for a sustainable development of its energy regime. The final goal is the full electricity shift towards renewable energy sources supported by energy efficiency while ensuring energy security for the economy, creating green jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Heinrich Boell Foundation (HBF) and Centre for Environment Education (CEE) are delighted to invite you to a roundtable discussion with different stakeholders on the various technology options and policy measures for renewable energy and energy efficiency as well as their implications in India. These roundtable discussions will take place in Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad and Delhi.
We look forward to your presence at this discussion.

As an outcome of the Rio+20 Conference, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are currently under negotiation at the UN in New York with the objective to agree on goals and targets for developed and developing countries alike on about 10 identified topics for global sustainable development. Energy is on of these topics.
Centre for Environment Education is advising the Indian delegation at the SDG negotiations and has prepared draft report on several of the identified topics. It is essential for the SDGs feasibility to involve the relevant stakeholders in the SDG formulation process. Thus, we seek input from different stakeholders and experts in an open discussion while finalising the report.
