The EU and India: Inevitable Partners for a Rules-Based International Order
Policy Brief Series on India-Europe Relations
As the culminating session of the CSDR–HBS Policy Brief Series on India–Europe relations, this webinar marks the launch of the final policy brief, “The EU and India: Inevitable Partners for a Rules-Based International Order.”
At a time of deep geopolitical uncertainty and a retreat from multilateral engagement by key global powers, the European Union and India stand out as critical—and increasingly inevitable—defenders of a rules-based international order. This session will examine how the two partners can combine their diplomatic, economic, and technological strengths to drive reforms across major global institutions.
The discussion will address a range of pressing challenges, including revitalizing the UN Security Council, safeguarding global climate frameworks such as the UNFCCC, preventing fragmentation in global trade and financial systems, and shaping equitable norms for emerging technologies.
Guiding questions include:
- In which sectors—security, climate, trade, or technology—can EU–India cooperation be most transformative?
- What practical steps can both partners take to strengthen global governance for the 21st century?
- How can they best coordinate diplomatic and economic tools to support resilient, inclusive, and effective multilateral institutions?
