Exhibition: The Price of Gold (until 29 Feb 2016)
The story of the gold miners, sick with silicosis, and their fight for compensation in the high court
The High Court in Johannesburg will soon decide if a class action lawsuit can be laid against 32 gold mining companies in South Africa. Thom Pierce, in collaboration with the Treatment Action Campaign and Sonke Gender Justice and with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation, journeyed through the back roads of South Africa and Lesotho to document the people at the forefront of the case. These men and women were either miners or those left behind after the migrant workers contracted silicosis and/ or tuberculosis on the gold mines.
Visit the exhibition at the Iziko Slave Lodge, Adderley Street, in Cape Town from 3 December 2015 until 29 February 2016.
