TITLE : The Fight Against Female Genital Mutilation
Thursday 27th August 2015
Lodokojek Ward, Samburu County
10am - 12.30pm
BY INVITATION
In February 2015, the Heinrich Boll Foundation hosted a gender forum in Nairobi which focused on female genital mutilation. The discussion examined reasons why this practice persists even in the 21st century despite years of sensitization and interventions from different stakeholders.
Following this forum, we were challenged to take the same discussion to where its needed most i.e. "beyond the tarmac ".
Following this challenge the Heinrich Boll Foundation in partnership with the Centre for Advocacy and Gender Equity, Samburu will host this months gender forum at Sora Adoru Primary School,
Lodokojek Ward, Samburu County on Thursday 27th August 2015.
The forum will seek to engage members of the community on the issue of FGM, get their views on what needs to be done to eliminate this vice and at the same time challenge their views on FGM. The forum will bring together community leaders from the religious organizations and well as CBOs.
You can follow the conversation via our Facebook or Twitter, #genderforum #FGM2015
We shall resume the gender forum in Nairobi in September 2015 at a date to be communicated.
About the Gender Forum
The Gender Forum is a monthly public dialogue convened by the Heinrich Böll Stiftung since 2001, encouraging dialogue on pertinent national issues with a gendered lens. It brings together scholars, law makers and implementers, civil activists, government institutions, students and the general public, aiming at sharing knowledge and inspiring gendered analysis of policy and programmes. The forum also convenes in Kisumu in partnership with KEFEADO and travels around the country in response to county needs.
