Agriculture in Kenya and East Africa is the main source of livehoood for a majority of the population.

That women play a significant role in agriculture and agribusiness is evident. Despite women’s major contribution to the sector, their success is hampered by women’s inability to access and control vital assets important for agribusiness. Due to a highly patriarchal society, women have limited access to land, water, credit facilities, technology and entrepreneurial expertise necessary to succeed in agribusiness.

Stakeholders in the sector have recognized this gap and are now focusing on models, methods to encourage women’s participation in agribusiness.

The gender forum seeks to discuss and critically analyze the different models, approaches and interventions that are currently being used to encourage women’s active involvement in agribusiness. The discussion will focus on two themes i.e. financial options and entrepreneurial capacities.
