Governing Ecologically
How to promote ecological modernisation in Europe?
The study ‘Governing Ecologically’ looks at the participation of the German Greens in governments at the level of the federal states with regard to strengthening environmentally friendly and sustainable government policies. In doing so it takes up the current social and political debates on ecological modernisation which have recently been shaped by the discussions on the summer heat wave, driving restrictions for diesel vehicles, a transition in transport policy and international climate protection by Fridays for Future. As a result, climate protection has become an integral part of government policy at national and European level in recent months.
This development shows that in order to be able to meet the challenge of the century of climate change and ecological transformation, central innovations and new directions are needed. We therefore want to discuss at this event how ‘green governance’ can promote ecological modernisation at different levels.
