Green Climate Fund: How can it support transformational change?
Bonn Climate Change Conference
When: 16:45 - 18:15 on June 3, 2015
Where: Room: Berlin (112), Bonn, Germany
Hosted by: Heinrich Böll Stiftung North America, Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), Friends of the Earth US (FOE), Jubilee South Asia/Pacific, Movement on Debt and Development, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) and the Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense (AIDA).
Objective
As the Green Climate Fund (GCF) prepares to approve its first tranche of projects and programs, clarity on the types of activities that will require financial support is essential. To support transformational change in developing countries, multi-stakeholder engagement becomes vital for enhancing country ownership. The session will focus on the following issues:
- Projects and programs that GCF should and should not support in developing countries, with a particular focus on the role of GCF in energy financing.
- The role of GCF in ensuring effective multi-stakeholder participation at the national level, in order to promote country ownership of climate finance.
- Actions needed to increase direct access to GCF resources.
Overview
The session will start with a presentation of the current GCF state of play. A group of panelists, including representatives from government/GCF board and civil society, will be asked to share their perspectives the types of projects and programs GCF should and should not finance and the importance of stakeholder engagement in national decision making processes to improve country ownership.
Format: Panel discussion followed by a Q&A session.
