Green Tea Morning: New masculinities and movements for change in India
Recent years in India have seen the assertion of different kinds of masculinities in the political sphere. Even as the masculinist discourse is in the ascendant, it is being questioned and subverted through mobilisations by feminists, queer and trans communities who are questioning given notions of masculinity.
This talk will explore the new forms of masculinist assertions in India in recent years and the challenges they pose for battles for women's equality, as well as the transformations in understanding masculinity that are being brought about by trans and queer groups.
Speaker:
- Urvashi Butalia, founder of Zubaan, a feminist publishing house and NGO based in India.
She has a long involvement in the women's movement in India and has written and published widely on issues relating to gender and women.
