The human rights framework in Kenya which is anchored in the Constitution has led to substantial progress in the country’s equality and non-discrimination ideals. The application of human rights with respect to existing realities of gender diversity and sexual minorities remains contested given social, cultural and popular narratives in the region.
The gender forum seeks to explore applicable human rights principles in terms of understanding:
- The legal framework for equality and universal human rights and fundamental freedoms
- Tolerance and human co-existence in a world of diversity
- Coherence in human rights struggles
- The matrix of diversity and self identity
- Human sexuality and ethics - equality and respect in human sexuality
