A handful of corporations control the global food system, from seeds and fertilisers to commodity trading, food processing, and supermarket shelves. Recent crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine and in Iran, exposed the risks of this concentration: while food prices soared and supply chains faltered, many of the world's largest agribusiness companies made record profits.

The international edition of the Agribusiness Atlas 2026 reveals how corporate power shapes our food system, influences political decision-making, squeezes farmers, and drives up food prices. It also examines the growing gap between what farmers earn and what consumers pay.

Speakers' bios:

Dr. Imme Scholz serves as President of the Berlin-based Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung since 2022. Prior to that she had been Deputy Director of the German Development Institute (Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik, DIE) since 2009. She is an Honorary professor for Global Sustainability and its Normative Fundamentals at the Center for Ethics and Responsibility (ZEV) at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in St. Augustin. Clara Bourgin is a campaigner at Friends of the Earth Europe, the largest grassroots environmental network in Europe and co-publisher of the Agribusiness Atlas.

Sofía Monsalve, is the UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food and holds decades of experience at the intersection of human rights, food systems, and social justice.

Morgan Ody is a small-scale vegetable farmer in Brittany, France, and the General Coordinator of La Via Campesina, an international movement bringing together peasants, small and medium-size farmers, landless people, rural women and youth, Indigenous People, migrants and agricultural workers.

Raj Patel is a film-maker, best-selling author, research professor at the University of Texas and a member of the IPES-Food panel. 

As the Alliance for Food Sovereignty (AFSA) Programme Coordinator for African Agroecological Entrepreneurship, Ruth Nabaggala has strengthened territorial markets across Africa by convening entrepreneurs and market actors, advancing cross-border trade and market linkages. She is passionate about building inclusive, locally controlled food systems and people-and-planet-centred enterprises that empower women, youth and smallholder farmers, preserve indigenous knowledge, and create resilient communities and dignified livelihoods.
