Listen to Me: Untold Stories beyond Hatred
Film screening and discussion
On October 26 at 7:00 pm, the South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation hosts a screening of the documentary
Listen to Me: Untold Stories beyond Hatred
Produced by PINK Armenia with the support of the US Embassy, and directed by Gagik Ghazareh, this documentary film is about the LGBT community in Armenia.
In 2012, after the explosion of the DIY Pub and the attacks on the Diversity Parade, discussions about the LGBT Community have seen an increased momentum. Critical and aggressive allegations directed towards the LGBT Community have “puddled” the individuality of LGBT persons, hindering the possibility of getting to know these people, who are considered the enemy and towards whom so much extreme hatred is shown.
In the film “Listen to Me,” 10 representatives of the LGBT Community have agreed to come out of the closet and talk about their experiences in front of the camera.
By sharing personal stories about their childhood, their existence, their self-recognition, their relationships with their families and by making their voices heard, they are cleansing their name, tarnished by society and driving changes in homo/bi/transphobic attitudes.
The screening, will be followed by a discussion focusing on the similarities and differences of the LGBT situation in Armenia and Georgia, with the participation of one of the heroes of the film.
