More Than an Add-On?

Centering gender equality in climate investments

This event will be simultaneously translated into Spanish and French.

While all major climate funds have gender mainstreaming mandates, the gender-responsiveness of the climate investment approaches they support and their overall funding portfolio needs further improvements. Too often, as a recent Heinrich Böll Stiftung/Gender Action study analyzing the gender integration efforts of projects and programs in the Green Climate Fund (GCF) portfolio highlighted, attention to gender is treated as an add-on rather than an integral part of the way climate actions are conceived, structured and implemented.

Speakers in this virtual panel discussion will address those shortcomings and how to overcome persistent structural challenges. Women-led and feminist organizations and community-based groups, while lacking access to finance and decision-making, already lead bold holistic gender-just climate solutions and initiatives worth funding support.

Speakers:

Elaine Zuckerman, President, Gender Action, USA

Titi Soentoro, Executive Director, Aksi! for Gender, Social and Ecological Justice, Indonesia

Tiffany Hodgson, Manager for Environmental and Social Safeguards, Gender and Indigenous Peoples, Green Climate Fund (GCF)

Ciara Daniels, Policy Specialist on Gender and Environmental Finance,  United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

Luiz Vieira, Coordinator, Bretton Woods Project, UK

Liane Schalatek, Associate Director, Heinrich Böll Stiftung Washington, DC
