Building Positive Futures from COP30

What remains of the Belém debates can be collectively carried into the future. Beyond the Heads of State Summit and the closed-door negotiations of national delegations in the Blue Zone, COP30 provided an opportunity to bring together many practical solutions as well as future visions from Brazil and countries around the world. It served as a space for civil society to connect, exchange experiences, and strengthen shared agendas. In this context, Heinrich Böll Foundation successfully launched its Positive Futures Platform, a collaborative initiative that aims to connect people, initiatives, and territories committed to building a fairer, more sustainable world. The goal is to give visibility to concrete actions that could inspire overarching solutions to multiple global crises. During the online event, we will briefly introduce the platform, sum up our COP30 take aways as a foundation, and continue to guide discussions and reflections on building positive futures in the post-COP30 and pre-COP31 context, focusing on the following topics:

  • Science and voices from the Amazon: Multiple forms of knowledge for envisioning possible futures
  • Learnings from diverse perspectives on the relationships between humans and non-humans
  • Futures of rural-urban interfaces
  • Learnings from traditional and modern technologies for envisioning sustainable cities, peripheries, and regions

What are the visions from the communities for a positive and sustainable future? How can civil society promote these visions and bring about relevant political decisions?
