Resisting the Anti-Gender Agenda: Reviving Queer Rights
As the election year is coming to an end, we know that anti-gender movements are going to stay and gain even more impact globally, threatening hard-won achievements for queer rights.
Queer sexualities and gender diversity are common “enemies”, within conservative, nationalist, and fascist agendas worldwide. A person’s existence and gender identity become a battleground for political gains, strengthening anti-human rights narratives, legitimizing funding cuts, and normalizing chauvinist and nationalist discourse.
By using narratives that stigmatize queer communities, the violence against them is legitimized. How can civil society prepare for yet another fight for equality and justice, protecting the recent advancements in queer rights?
In the second edition of our online discussion series, we recall what we can learn from trans and queer history in reclaiming spaces. How can we resist this anti-gender backlash and safeguard inclusive policies? How do we revive dignity, freedom, and self-determination for all? With rapidly closing spaces for LGBTIQ+ people, how do we defend queer rights and communities?
