The Bridgetown Initiative and the Reform of the International Financial Architecture
Heinrich Böll Stiftung and E3G warmly invite you to a round table discussion on the ‘Bridgetown Initiative’ and ‘The Summit for a new Global Financing Pact’ on Wednesday, February 8 from 19:00-20:30 hrs followed by drinks.
The Bridgetown Initiative is a proposal from Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley to overhaul the global financial system and make it fit to deliver the resources needed to respond to the “polycrisis”. The Bridgetown Initiative will be an integral part of the Summit for a new Global Financing Pact hosted by President Macron and Mia Motttley in June to advance a broader reform of international financial institutions. These proposals will only bear fruit if developed countries take the proposed changes seriously and join forces with the Global South to promote decisive, deep reforms.
The round table will feature a presentation on the background and context of the Bridgetown Initiative, its purpose, the state of play, a timeline and a set of recommendations to move the initiative forward as well as the current plans for the Summit.
Speaker:
- Franklin Steves, Senior Policy Adviser in Sustainable Finance, E3G.
Welcome and Moderation:
- Jörg Haas, Head of the International Politics Division, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung.
Following the presentation and related Q&A, we would like to engage with you on a strategy discussion on the following questions:
- What role can Germany play to move the Bridgetown Initiative and related reform proposals forward?
- Who are likely allies and opponents within Germany’s political system?
- What can be done to advance support for the reform of the global financial system in Germany?
Important to note:
The round table is specifically designed for trusted friends to have an honest and creative conversation under Chatham House rule. This invite is non-transferable. Space is limited so please confirm your participation by registering.
