Schlüsselorte (Key Places)

At the book premiere to be celebrated with InterKontinental publishing house , three of the authors and the editor will immerse us in their very personal key places in Cairo, Graz, Khartoum, Johannesburg or Berlin and read from their contributions to the volume.

Edited by Fiston Mwanza Mujila, the short stories by African and Afro-diasporic authors reflect aspects of urban realities here and there and across transcontinental borders.

In the 14 stories of the anthology "Schlüsselorte", the city sometimes serves as a setting in which tragedy and comedy intertwine. Then again, it is the main character, a place of longing and uprooting. A world without points of reference, in which values and securities give way to endless possibilities and ambivalent feelings of belonging. Against the backdrop of overburdened infrastructure, overtaxed administration, chaotic traffic and an often very young population, urban space appears to be a breeding ground for creative processes.  All that remains is the language of absolute defiance. And this language runs through all the tales: sarcastic, theatrical, sometimes with dialect, questioning, searching or utterly intimate.
