Shaken Security in Europe: Ukraine and Beyond
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are pleased to invite you to the international panel debate Shaken Security in Europe: Ukraine and Beyond which will take place on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, 17:00 – 18:30, at the Jiří Mahen Library in Brno.
The event is organized by the Association for International Affairs (AMO) in cooperation with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung in Prague, the U.S. Embassy Prague and the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic.
The purpose of the debate of the former European Commissioner Štefan Füle, U.S. analyst Bruce Jackson, Ukrainian activist Olena Halushka, and Jan Michal, Head of the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic is to commemorate the two year anniversary of the Euromaidan but at the same time to discuss European perspective of Ukraine.
Two years after Euromaidan, and one and half year after the start of the Russian aggression, the Ukraine is far from being stable, prosperous and secure. The country – still under military pressure from Russia – is trying to push through needed socio-economic reforms and implement far-reaching administrative, institutional and constitutional amendments stipulated in Minsk accords. With the brutal conflict in Syria and all its related consequences, the West is gradually losing attention paid to Ukraine. However, Ukraine has not resigned from the objective of becoming a member of Euro-Atlantic integration structures. The West has to face it, as stability and prosperity of Ukraine are crucial for upholding secure EU’s neighbourhood.
