Workshop

A Woman's World

Towards More Gender-Aware Urbanism & Urban Practice

Despite being key contributors and enablers of the activities and mechanisms that drive urban wealth creation, women and their needs are still largely under-represented in the design and planning of cities. Considering that we should be preparing for highly-feminized cities, it is imperative for urban development practitioners to begin to address female considerations in the execution of planning activities. This worksshop has been put together to identify the ways in which current urban conditions, policies and practices affect women and their related activities. What contributes to a lack of access and opportunity for women in cities? How can our urban landscape be rewritten into one of equitable access, safety and opportunity?

Participants in this workshop will envision a different Lagos - a more inclusive city with unlimited potential and exponential growth, which pays attentions to the needs of its female indigenes and incorporates these needs into urban framework. Architects, urban planners, policy makers, business owners and anyone with an interest in women and cities are welcome to come explore these questions with us.
