RUTA Association Annual Conference 2025
Imagination: New Visions and Connections
26–29 June 2025, Ukraine

The RUTA Association invites proposals for papers, panels, roundtables, and artistic contributions for its annual conference, to be held in the Carpathian Mountains, Ukraine. The event centers on reclaiming narratives about Central, South-Eastern, and Eastern Europe, the Baltics, Caucasus, and Central and Northern Asia (RUTA region[s]) by fostering new, locally rooted visions and global conversations.

The conference seeks to challenge external, hierarchical framings of the region(s) and promote collaborative, decolonial, and socially responsible knowledge production. We welcome contributions from academic, artistic, and activist communities that engage critically and creatively with the legacies of imperialism, extractivism, nationalism, and inequality—and envision new alliances, solidarities, and futures.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

• Decolonial and antiracist approaches in the RUTA region(s)
• Legacies of empire and resistance
• Indigeneity, Roma rights, and feminist/LGBTQ+ movements
• Climate justice, health and trauma, socially responsible research
• Transregional solidarity, epistemic reparations, artistic imaginaries

We particularly encourage transregional and comparative panels that situate the RUTA region(s) in global contexts. Artistic formats such as exhibitions, performances, and film screenings are also welcome.
