Geopolitical heavyweight or shadow boxer? The role of the EU in the new world order
Venue: Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the EU, Rue Montoyer 47, 1000 Brussels
The geopolitical world order is facing a turning point. Russia's war against Ukraine is shaking the European security architecture and putting the EU's defence capabilities to the test. At the same time, China is continuing its economic and technological expansion, building geopolitical alliances and challenging the West strategically. In the US, Donald Trump has once again triggered a political storm, putting transatlantic relations to the test and shaking up the global order.
Europe must position itself in this new reality and constellation of powers. Can the EU be a geopolitical player or will it remain an economic giant but a political dwarf? Can it assert its interests and values globally - or is it being driven by other powers? What strategies are needed to secure influence, overcome crises and redefine Europe's role in the world?
