At a critical point in time shortly before the elections to the European Parliament, the reform process of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is entering a crucial phase with the last round of negotiations on the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework. The Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung European Union, Friends of the Earth Europe and BirdLife Europe would like to take this occasion to present the Agriculture Atlas 2019.

The multiple problems caused by industrial agriculture and the significant proportion of the overall EU budget allocated to agriculture, namely 36% of the EU’s financial resources coming from taxpayers’ money, make it even more important to discuss how the CAP must be reformed to support a more sustainable, socially fair and climate-friendly agriculture. How can the CAP enhance regional development and social cohesion, provide the rural population with long-term development perspectives and reinforce the positive perception of European cooperation?

The Agriculture Atlas 2019 maps out various issues related to agriculture such as biodiversity, climate change, health, livestock farming and structural change. It provides country-specific case studies to illustrate the real challenges on the ground.
