A growing number of industrialized countries are beginning to experience a decoupling trend between economic growth (GDP) and fossil energy consumption and CO2 emissions. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global CO2 emissions decreased – for the first time – in 2014 while global GDP continued to grow. One of the main reasons for this development is better energy efficiency measures and a sharp increase in renewable energy deployment globally. This event will highlight this decoupling trend in both the national and international context – especially as it relates to the current international climate and Sustainable Development Goals discussions. Discussions will relate to the launch of a new study by the German Economic Institute (DIW) that looks into this decoupling trend in the US, China and Germany.
Please RSVP by Friday, September 18, 2015.
This event will take place at the Scandinavia House (58 Park Ave, New York, NY 10016).
