Discussion: Gender equality role in decarbonization and green recovery
The role of women empowerment for faster, more sustainable and resilient decarbonization is hard to overestimate. A successful inclusion of women in the sector means achieving greater diversity and complementarity as well as expanding the pool of talent to better address the demand for skills. Nevertheless, the potential of women engagement in energy transition and decarbonization processes is still not entirely utilized.
The discussion will address following questions:
1. How to ensure better engagement of women in decision making on decarbonization?
2. How to step over directly to inclusive, just and decarbonized energy and industry systems?
3. How to align financial flows with both climate and gender needs?
Panelists:
• Svitlana Grynchuk, Deputy Minister on Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine
• Birgit Schwenk, Director General for Climate Action at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany
• Makoma Lekalakala, Director of Earthlife Africa
• Laura Piovesan, Deputy Director General, Projects Directorate, EIB
