Self-Love and Body Revolution
Part of the African Book Festival 2024
In many societies today, the white, slim, cis body without physical limitations is considered desirable. In a world in which many inter-state relationships are characterized by colonial history and societies are shaped by patriarchal structures, the body is always also political. Against this backdrop, the panel will discuss the relationship between a "body revolution" and other emancipatory struggles, against patriarchy, against the oppression of indigenous peoples and against capitalism. It will also address the question of how stereotypes can be overcome and how diverse social practices, tolerance and acceptance of the "other" can be sustainably inscribed in society.
The event is part of the three-day African Book Festival, organized by InterKontinental e. V. in Berlin. You can find the complete programme for the sixth edition of the festival here.
