Berlin: Freihandel zwischen EU und Mercosur

The conference organised by the Heinrich Böll Foundation (hbs) and the <B>Center for Research and Documentation Chile - Latin America (FDCL)</B> will investigate the impact of free trade, liberalisation, privatization, and foreign investment on development and human rights, by looking at certain countries and sectors. Special attention will be given to the differing interests of the EU and the MERCOSUR with regards to the agricultural sector and the consequences of the liberalisation of the drinking water market. National and international approaches and mechanisms for the protection of human rights will also be discussed.<br><br> Die von der Heinrich Böll Stiftung und dem <B>Forschungs- und Dokumentationszentrum Chile-Lateinamerika</B> organisierte Konferenz versucht, anhand von konkreten Länder- und Sektorbeispielen die Frage nach den Auswirkungen von Freihandel, Liberalisierung, Privatisierung und Auslandsinvestitionen auf Entwicklungschancen und Menschenrechte zu stellen. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt dabei den Interessendifferenzen zwischen EU und dem MERCOSUR, dem Agrarsektor, den Folgen der Liberalisierung des Trinkwassermarktes; ebenso werden nationale und internationale Ansätze und Mechanismen des Menschenrechtsschutzes thematisiert.
