The pervasive view both inside and outside of the United States is that the world is experiencing a nuclear revival. Often nuclear power is branded as a reliable and secure energy source that helps to transition towards a low-carbon economy. Proponents of nuclear power portray it as the necessary bridging technology to the solar age. How valid are these arguments?

Different perspectives challenge this view. Revealing its costs makes clear that nuclear energy is not competitive in the free market economy without heavy government support. More nuclear power will hinder the growth of renewable energy technologies and will postpone the investments in wind, solar, and efficiency technologies. In addition, there are serious security concerns about civil use of nuclear power and its proliferation dangers.
