Der Spiegel der Anderen – Mirror of Alterity

Künstlerische Interventionen am 29.10.2016

Die Angst vor dem Fremden durchzieht die Gesellschaften Europas.  Die Krisen im Nahen und Mittleren Osten haben viele Menschen dazu getrieben, sich auf den Weg in eine bessere und sichere Zukunft zu machen. Der Weg nach Europa scheint für Sie die Hoffnung auf ein menschenwürdiges Leben zu sein. Doch in Europa breitet sich Angst vor den Missachteten und Verfolgten aus Kriegs- und Krisenregionen der Welt aus. Die Politik verschiedener Länder reagiert mit Abschottung und schürt die Ängste durch populistische Antworten, Bevölkerungen,  vor allem im östlichen Teil Europas, sperren sich gegen die Aufnahme von Flüchtlingen.

Was können Künstler*Innen in dieser Situation tun? Wie können sie sich damit auseinandersetzen, wenn sie auf die Not aufmerksam machen wollen.  Im Frühjahr fand die Ausstellung „Fear of the unknown“ in Bratislava statt. Sie wollte mit interaktiven Kunstinstallationen Lernprozesse anregen. Einige Arbeiten dieser Ausstellung und weitere Arbeiten sind jetzt in Berlin in der Ausstellung „Der Spiegel der Anderen – Mirror of Alterity“ zu sehen.

Am 29. Oktober 2016 werden drei der Künstler*Innen in der Ausstellung in Berlin an einem Gespräch über Kunst, Interventionen, Interaktive Ansätze und die Arbeit gegen Xenophobie sprechen. Moderiert wird dieses Gespräch von Mark Gisbourne.

English version:

The fear of the others permeates the societies of Europe. The crises in the Near and Middle East have driven many people to make their way to a better and safer future. The road to Europe seems to be the hope for a decent living. But in Europe, fear of the disappeared and persecuted from the war and crisis regions of the world is spreading. The politics of different countries reacts with isolation and fan fear by populist replies. Populations, especially from the eastern part of Europe are blocking to receive refugees.

What are artists able to do in this situation? How can they deal with it if they want to draw attention to this misery? In spring the exhibition "Fear of the unknown" took place in Bratislava. With interactive art installations, it should stimulate learning processes. Some of the works of this exhibition and further works are now shown up in Berlin in the exhibition "Der Spiegel der Anderen - Mirror of Alterity".

On October 29, 2016, three of the artists, Alena Foustková (CZ), Dávid Koronczi and Martina Szabóová (SK) will take part in a conversation about art, interventions, interactive approaches and the work against xenophobia. This conversation is moderated by Mark Gisbourne, art critic and curator (Rohkunstbau).
