The Energy Security Perspective of the Visegrad States

BÖLL LUNCH LECTURE

With energy becoming an increasingly salient issue within the European Union and abroad, the EU Regional Office of the Heinrich Böll Foundation is pleased to introduce a series of ‘Böll Lunch Lectures’ on the theme of European energy security.

The fourth event in this series, organised in partnership with the offices of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Warsaw and Prague, will focus on the energy security perspective of the Visegrad States, notably Poland and the Czech Republic. How can the Visegrad States tackle the twin challenges of climate change, with coal being its most abundant fossil fuel, and the need to secure reliable energy supplies, in the context of the region’s import dependency on gas and oil? What will the future energy mix of the Visegrad States look like? And what roles do the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation play when it comes to Central Europe’s energy security?

Speakers:
Pawel Konzal, Representative of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo (PGNiG) in Brussels
Vladimír Vlk, Director of the Department for Sustainable Energy and Transport, Ministry of Environment, Czech Republic
Discussant
Claude Turmes, Member of European Parliament, Greens/European Free Alliance
Chair
Roderick Kefferpütz, Heinrich Böll Foundation EU Regional Office
