EU CSO Steering Group Consultation on the Joint Africa EU Strategy (JAES) with its African Partners
Since the establishment of the
Joint Africa EU Strategy (JAES), civil society in the EU and in Africa has progressively organised with the aim of
allowing citizens’ participation in the dialogue between the two
continents. The 21 and 22 September
Workshop intends to bring together experts and civil society representatives
from Africa and the EU to review and discuss
three years of joint Africa-EU partnership in light of recent institutional
developments both at the EU and African level. It also provides an opportunity
for a frank exchange about challenges and opportunities for civil society
participation in partnership.
The meeting will allow participants to be updated on recent developments in the JAES and to actively participate in its global evaluation. Working group will allow for in depth exchange and sharing of understandings and experiences in most of the partnerships areas considered by the Strategy. Importantly, cross cutting issues such as European-African CSOS relations, civil-society and institutional relations and European African relations in general will also be discussed.
The main objective of the Workshop is to address the issue of civil society participation in the JAES with a view to improve on effectiveness and impact. The concluding plenary session aims to adopt policy recommendations in view of the next JAES Action Plan.
Participants should have an understanding and experience of the content and the working methods of both the JAES and the thematic partnerships. Attached you will find some preparatory documents for your information.
