EU-Russian Relations: Which Way Forward after Presidential Elections?
BÖLL LUNCH DEBATE
Significant friction between the
European Union and the Russian Federation as regards Polish meat, energy
supplies and access to markets, the future of Kosovo and Iran, as well as
bilateral problems between Russia and some EU member states, demonstrate that
the so-called ‘strategic relationship’ is facing serious problems. With
domestic blockades, such as the EU constitutional treaty and Russian Presidential
elections, having more-or-less been tackled, is there any window of opportunity
to rethink/restart EU-Russian relations?
In this vein, what policies, strategic thinking, or approaches are needed in order to lead the current relationship out of the doldrums?
How do both actors perceive each other?
And what kind of relationship do both sides envision?
Speakers:
Arkady Moshes, Programme Director, The Finnish Institute of International Affairs
Sabine Fischer, Research Fellow, European Institute for Security Studies
Discussant:
Jens Siegert, Director, Heinrich Böll Foundation, Moscow
Chair:
Bastian Hermisson, Director for Foreign and Security Policy, Heinrich Böll Foundation, Berlin
