Femenicides or the murder of women in Mexico and Central America. What role could the EU play?
BÖLL LUNCH DEBATE
The number of women in Mexico and Central America assassinated under circumstances defined as feminicide calls for immediate and clear actions!!! The facts are obvious and the Authorities agree that everything has to be done to stop these murders. But to this day none of the initiatives taken have stopped the killings. The EU has an association agreement with Mexico and is negotiating the establishment of a regional association agreement with Central America, both include political dialogue, cooperation and trade. So what is keeping the EU from providing the appropriate expertise and help to Mexico and Central America in bringing an end to this intolerable situation ?
What to do?
What role could the EU play?
What can the Latin American countries expect from the EU?
Mr Raul Romeva MEP who presented an own-initiative report addressing the Feminicide to the European Parliament women’s committee in 2006 will discuss his new initiative during our lunch debate. We hope you will be able to join us to reflect on Mr Romeva proposals from your perspective.
