Good Practices in Gender Mainstreaming: Towards Effective Gender Training

Die Veranstaltung findet in Brüssel statt. Sprache ist: englisch. Englische Einladung:

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) aims to contribute to and strengthen the promotion of gender equality including gender mainstreaming in all EU policies and the resulting national policies.

Gender mainstreaming is a strategy to achieve gender equality; it refers to the (re)organisation, improvement, development and evaluation of policy processes, so that a gender equality perspective is incorporated in all policies at all levels and all stages, by actors normally involved in policy-making.

Methods and tools for the implementation of gender mainstreaming comprise, among others, educational techniques and tools.

Why gender equality training?
Existing values and norms influence our understanding of reality, perpetuate stereotypes and support the mechanisms (re) producing inequality. Actors normally involved in policy processes have to learn how to analyse and assess the possible impact of a policy decision on women and men and how to address gender-specific barriers, which might exist in policy or social contexts. Applying tools and techniques which integrate a gender perspective requires knowledge and training.

To collect good practices developed and used by stakeholders, disseminate information and engage the users in the analysis and sharing of knowledge, a study was commissioned by EIGE, which identified several efficient training programmes. The identified good practices will be presented and discussed in the conference.

What are the conference objectives?
  • To provide a platform for an exchange of good practices on gender training, facilitate a discussion on the guiding quality principles for gender training as well as to support the establishment of a thematic network of practitioners working in the field of gender training in the European Union.
  • To present a database of trainers and training institutions in Europe made available through EIGE’s website. The database will include references to trainers/institutions with experience in providing training on gender mainstreaming for European Institutions and Member State administrations.
Who is the target group?
Commissioning institutions, practitioners and final users of gender training at Member State, European and international levels as well as other stakeholders.
