How Will Germany Meet Its Ambitious Energy Goals?

Pathways to a Low-Carbon, High-Prosperity Economy

Opening remarks by Arne Jungjohann, Program Director of Environment, Heinrich Böll Foundation North America

Keynote by Dr. Felix Christian Matthes, Research Coordinator Energy & Climate, Öko-Institut, Berlin

Q&A moderated by Jennifer Morgan, Director of the Climate and Energy Program, World Resources Institute

The German government adopted a long-term energy strategy in the fall of 2010 and recently announced its decision to phase out nuclear power by 2022. Germany’s new energy plan is also an accelerated phase-in of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
What does Germany’s energy plan mean for economic prosperity in the world’s fourth largest economy? How is it going to replace a large power source, while reaching its ambitious clean energy goals? What has Germany learned from two decades of successful renewable energy policies?

The Heinrich Böll Foundation North America and the World Resources Institute would like to invite you to a lunch briefing featuring Dr. Felix Christian Matthes, one of Germany’s leading energy experts, who will address these and related questions.
