International Conference Violence against women in relation to development awareness

Violence against women or gender based violence exists in every country in the world as a pervasive violation of human rights, a major impediment to the achievement of gender equality and goals of development and peace. Women are exposed to different forms of violence: domestic violence, trafficking with women, sexual exploitation and other violations of sexual and reproductive rights, violence in armed conflicts, violence in the form of different traditional and cultural practices, etc. Gender based violence was systematically used as a deliberate weapon of war in numerous recent conflicts (Kosovo, Bosnia, Congo, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, etc.). Systematic rapes, sexual slavery and forced pregnancy of Muslim women in Bosnian conflict are still firmly grounded in our consciousness.

At the conference we will highlight different issues in the field of violence against women, typical for Slovenian as well as other societies around the world: domestic violence, violence against women in connection with migration and trafficking with women, and the position of victims on the labor market.
