Uppsala Centre for Gender Research

Uppsala Centre for Gender Research is a powerful research unit consisting of some 20 scholars. The Centre has become a unique meeting place for scientists and students from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. From the beginning concrete and focused efforts have aimed at making organisational and scientific boundary transgressions possible. The interdisciplinary investment in research and teaching efforts has already yielded impressive results and vibrant networks connecting the cultural and natural sciences. Now the Centre wants to strengthen and further expand these networks. The primary objective of the current five-year programme is nurturing a research environment blending empirical investigations and theoretical reflections on the production of gender and gendered knowledge on the border between the cultural and natural sciences (empirical research, development of theory, teaching). The Centre is now making use of resources from a program of gender excellence to enhance novel research on nature/culture boundaries, and transgressive encounters.

This new program emphasizes three strands: gender and physics, gender and animal research, transdisciplinary feminist didactics.
