LGBTI Rights are Human Rights – Everywhere!
International Conference
On 29 September, 2013, the City of Nuremberg will present the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award for the tenth time. This year’s award winner is Ugandan human rights activist, Kasha Jacqueline Nabagesera, who will be honoured for her long-term commitment to the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersexual people (LGBTI).
In choosing this award winner, the jury decided to show up worldwide discrimination of LGBTI people, and their choice is a milestone and a strong political signal: homophobia is a human rights issue – worldwide. It needs international publicity and strong advocacy.
The international conference “LGBTI Rights are Human Rights – Everywhere!” addresses precisely this topic. It will be held in Nuremberg on 27 & 28 September, 2013, immediately before the award presentation.
The two-day conference will focus on the implementation of LGBTI rights in Europe and in Germany, both de jure and de facto, since here, too, exclusion, discrimination and violence have been part of people’s everyday reality.
With renowned speakers from science, politics, association and civic society the conference aims at putting the topic “homophobia” on the international agenda. It understands itself as a wide platform for all participants to join in the thought process and to voice their opinions.
For strong participation and solidarity of all committed people is necessary, if the impulse given by the jury’s decision is to develop into a dynamic political and social movement towards more equality and anti-discrimination.
The conference organisers – the City of Nuremberg Human Rights Office, the Akademie CPH and the Nuremberg Human Rights Centre – issue a cordial invitation.
