Radikalisierung im Internet und mediale Inszenierung von Terror

Extremistische Propaganda wird heute vor allem über soziale Medien rasant verbreitet. Es wird befürchtet, dass der einfache Zugang zum Internet und diesen Inhalten eine Radikalisierung bestimmter Nutzergruppen begünstigt. Zudem sind Terroranschläge als Ergebnis von Radikalisierungsprozessen das mediale Dauerthema der vergangenen Wochen. Heroisiert man Täter/innen wenn sie abgebildet werden? Animiert detaillierte Information Trittbrettfahrer zu ähnlichen Taten? Es wird überall in Europa diskutiert, was Berichterstattung von Propaganda unterscheidet. Darüber möchten wir mit Ihnen und dem Internetsoziologen Stephan Humer sowie dem Künstler Hamid Sulaiman diskutieren.

Hamid Sulaiman, geboren 1986 in Damaskus, lebt und arbeitet in Paris. Sulaiman wurde bekannt als Chronist des gescheiterten Arabischen Frühlings und des syrischen Bürgerkriegs. Speziell dem Schicksal der Kriegskinder und dem Einfluss der Medien auf das kindliche Bewusstsein hat er sein "Brainwash Projekt" gewidmet. Beispiele daraus sind in der aktuellen Rohkunstbau Ausstellung zu sehen.

Stephan Humer ist Diplom-Soziologe und Informatiker. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Digitalisierung bzw. Internet und Gesellschaft, dabei forscht er zu dem Verhältnis von Sicherheit und Freiheit. Humer ist Hochschuldozent und Leiter des Forschungs- und Arbeitsbereichs Internetsoziologie der Hochschule Fresenius Berlin.

Radicalization on the internet and political staging of terror in the media

Nowadays extremist propaganda spreads via social media rapidly. There is a fear that easy access to the internet and to those contents facilitate the radicalization of certain user groups. Additionally terror attacks as a result of radicalization processes are the abiding theme in the media of the past weeks. Do we heroize attackers by depicting them? Does extensive information encourage copycats to similar actions? All over Europe it is discussed what differentiates reporting from propaganda. We want to talk about it and about relating issues with Stephan Humer, sociologist of the internet, and Hamid Sulaiman, a Syrian artist of this year's Rohkunstbau exhibition.

Hamid Sulaiman, was born in Damascus, lives and works in Paris. Sulaiman made a name for himself as a chronicler of the abortive Arab Spring and the Syrian civil war. His Brainwash project takes a particular interest in the fate of children caught up in the war and the influence of the media on children's consciousness. Sample works from this series are on display at the current Rohkunstbau exhibition.

Stephan Humer is sociologist and computer scientist. His focus of work is digitalization as well as internet and society. He researches the relationship between security and freedom. Humer is college professor and head of the department sociology of the internet at the Fresenius university of applied sciences in Berlin.
