Smart Growth:The Green Revolution - A new book by Ralf Fücks, President – Heinrich Böll Stiftung

Moderator: Jennifer Morgan, Director of the Climate and Energy Program, World Resources Institute

In his new book, Ralf Fücks challenges conservative and progressive strategies for economic growth, as well as the ecological notion of Dennis Meadows' 1982 'Limits to Growth'. He argues that, while calls for the end of growth are not realistic given the ongoing development needs of much of the world, there is a possibility for a growth path that goes hand-in-hand with ecological sustainability. Central to this is the need for Europe to recognize the opportunities arising out of the current economic and ecological crises. The potential to become the trailblazer of the green revolution is accompanied by the chance for greater political integration, as well as economic renewal.

Already launched with great success in Germany, Smart Growth: The Green Revolution has triggered intense debate reaching far beyond the traditional Green comfort zone. The English edition of the book will be released in the Fall of 2013.
