The State of Financial Regulation in Europe and in the U.S.: Enough to Prevent the Next Crisis?
Dr. Gerhard Schick, Green Party Representative in the Bundestag
On October 11, 2010, the Brookings Center on the US and Europe and the Heinrich Böll Foundation, as part of their ongoing series on the future of the European Union, will host Gerhard Schick, Green Party representative in the German Bundestag for a discussion of the state of financial regulation in Europe and in the U.S.
Mr. Schick, a Ph.D. in Finance from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, was first elected to the Bundestag in 2005. Before that, he worked for several foundations in Germany as project manager. Within his party, he especially focused on social and economic issues, and has published several articles on fiscal and monetary policy.
He will be joined in the discussion by:
- Donald L. Kohn, Senior fellow at Brookings, Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2010;
- Christian Kopf, responsible for macroeconomic analysis and investment strategy at Spinnaker Capital in London;
- and Nicolas Véron, Senior Fellow at Bruegel and visiting fellow at the Peterson Institute.
