The Taliban, and the Dilemma of Peace-Making in Afghanistan

The 9/11 attacks in the United States opened a new era for Afghanistan. Al-Qaeda was held responsible for the attack, and its attachment to the Taliban caused the U.S. to lead the international invasion in Afghanistan. The Taliban rejected  to hand over Osama bin Laden, the infamous Al-Qaeda leader to the U.S.; consequently, they were ousted from Afghanistan. Afterwards, a new government was installed, and the International community committed itself to take part in building peace in the country. But as of now, Afghanistan still suffers from insecurity and instability. An overview of the problem will be discussed, and at the end the future prospects will be drawn putting the peace reconciliation efforts with the Taliban into focus. What will happen after 2014 will be a core concern of the discussion.
