Third Regional Training Course on Gender, Citizenship and Participatory Governance for the Middle East and North Africa Region, Lebanon

This course, tailored for the Middle East and North Africa region, aims to provide a gender analysis of the governance, citizenship and related institutions and to familiarize participants with strategies to ensure that gender equality is prioritized in the governance agenda. 

Participants will acquire knowledge about gender analysis and why rights-based approaches are important for development in the Arab region; the impact of changes in the Arab region on women’s rights and gender equality; how to enhance women’s political effectiveness; the role of civil society in holding governments accountable for gender equality commitments; and how marginalized groups can be assisted in claiming citizenship and equal rights.

The course is organized in three modules:
- Module 1: an introduction to basic concepts of gender, citizenship and governance
- Module 2: agenda-setting in key policy areas (social and economic rights civil and political rights; reproductive and sexual rights including gender-based violence)
- Module 3: strategies and tools to enhance citizen participation, accountability and rights claiming. This last module provides participants with the opportunity to apply knowledge by working on a model project that can be used in their own work.

Admission criteria
Knowledge of gender and development concepts and working experience in this area. Experience in the field of human rights, governance and related areas will also be favourably considered. 
Proficiency in English and/or Arabic and computer skills are an added advantage. The course is run in English and Arabic.
