Vermont Renewable Energy Tour
In cooperation with Beyond Nuclear, Citizen’s Awareness Network, Safe and Green Campaign, Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance and Vermont PIRG.
The Heinrich Böll Foundation invites you to a renewable energy tour through Vermont from October 10-12, 2011. Jochen Flasbarth, the President of Germany’s Federal Environment Agency, will address how Germany plans to shut down all of its nuclear power plants by 2022 and transition toward 40% renewable energy by 2020. Flasbarth will present findings on how Germany’s electricity supply could make a complete switch to renewable energies by 2050.
Flasbarth will be accompanied by Arne Jungjohann, Director of the Environment Program at the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s Washington, DC office, who will highlight the similarities between Germany and Vermont and the possibility of transatlantic cooperation on supporting green energy communities. Jungjohann will discuss the small town energy revolution currently underway in Germany which may serve as an example for the communities and towns of Vermont.
Stops in Brattleboro and Montpellier will offer opportunities to exchange ideas and experiences as both Germany and Vermont face the challenge of replacing nuclear energy with more sustainable energy sources. The tour will provide information on comprehensive energy strategies that will pave the way for a low-carbon economy based on renewable energy, smarter grids, and efficient technologies on both sides of the Atlantic.
